On May 28th, 2021, China Satellite Navigation Conference S02 Session GNSS Applications for the Mass Market was held in the Borul Hall B on the first floor of Primus Hotel Nanchang International Expo City, Jiangxi.
Zhao Wenjun, Member of CSNC Organizing Committee and Senior Engineer of Beijing Satellite Navigation Center, introduced the purpose of the Session and chairmen and secretaries who were responsible for planning and organizing the Session. The chairmen of the S02 Session includes Zhao Wenjun, Feng Shaojun, Wang Taosheng, Xu Changhui, Yu Baoguo, and the Session's overseas chair, Professor Gao Yang of the University of Calgary. Due to the pandemic, Prof. Gao Yang was not able to come back to his home country and instead supported the Session online. The topics of the Session include: indoor positioning, applications of satellite navigation in mobile phones, high precision navigation algorithms and the low-cost GNSS applications for the mass market.
Chairman Yubao Baoguo presided over the Indoor Positioning Sub-session, which invited four experts, Prof. Chen Liang from Wuhan University, Prof. Wang Zhi from Zhejiang University, Dr. Huang Lu from the State Key Laboratory of Satellite Navigation System and Equipment Technology and Dr. Bi Jingxue from Shandong University of Architecture to give presentations on BDS+5G, BDS+near ultrasound, WiFi-RTT and indoor fingerprint positioning solutions based on standard particle swarm optimization respectively. Indoor positioning and navigation are widely needed in our daily life but are also technically demanding. There is no consensus on it in the academic community yet and relevant commercial technologies in the market are not mature enough, the technology is therefore still under research today. The experts introduced four different indoor positioning technologies with high positioning accuracy and commercial value to some extent. These technologies represent the current mainstream research direction in the academic community and also have certain guiding significance for future in-depth research on indoor positioning.
The Applications of Satellite Navigation in Mobile Phones Sub-session was chaired by Chairman Zhao Wenjun and invited Researcher Li Zishen from Aerospace Information Innovation Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences,Senior Expert in Terminal Jin Yujie (entrusted by Li Ke) from Qianxun SI Network Co., Ltd, Dr. Yan Wenlin from Jiangsu Normal University and Dr. Miao Weikai from Tongji University, a total of four experts, to give presentations, introducing the applications of BDS and other combined positioning and navigation means in mobile phones used by the general public. With the continuous improvement of positioning accuracy and mobile phone performance, the applications of BDS in the mass mobile phone market have broad prospects and a promising future.
The High-precision Navigation Algorithms Sub-session was chaired by Chairman Xu Changhui and invited Professor Li Zengke from China University of Mining and Technology, Senior Engineer Wang Denghui from Qianxun SI Network Co., Ltd, Dr. Liu Qiang from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Dr. Du Zhenqiang from Information Engineering University, and Senior Engineer Shao Huichao from Leador Spatial Information Technology Corporation to give presentations, introducing algorithms to speed up convergence, improve accuracy and navigate in specific scenarios, which are important for improving BDS’ user experience.
The Low-cost GNSS Applications for the Mass Market Sub-session was chaired by Chairman Feng Shaojun. Professor Nobuaki Kubo of Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology gave a video presentation entitled “Performance evaluation of low-cost GNSS/IMU and speed sensor for mass market” and answered questions on completeness, CORS station density and algorithms online. Zhao Zhenhui, Senior Engineer of Beijing UniStrong Science & Technology Co., Ltd., Li Qiang and Li Yang, graduate students of Harbin Engineering University and Dr. Liu Qi of Southeast University gave presentations that were focused on low-cost navigation technologies for the market with promising industrialization prospects.
The 18 presenters of the Session include both well-known professors and senior experts in the field of satellite navigation at home and abroad and graduate students, whose presentations were quite novel, attracting a large number of audience to the Session.
Chairman Feng Shaojun made a summary on behalf of the Session, saying that the mass application was the largest, fastest growing and closest to life application of satellite navigation and was the most direct beneficiary of “Spatio-temporal Data, Empowers Bright Future”. Chairman Feng expressed his expectations that experts, scholars and students could conduct extensive research on low-cost, low-power, high-performance and high-security location-based services, positioning and data technologies in full-scene conditions, explore innovative application models, make more achievements in the mass application and exchange relevant results at the 13th China Satellite Navigation Conference to be held in Beijing.
